Today is the International Dawn Chorus Day<\/a> \u2014 the day when ornithologists and enthusiasts go in the fields this morning really early to tune their ears to the most magnificent chorus on Earth.

\nThat’s what I did a few days ago making it to the Tchernigovsky forest to the east of Sergiyev Posad. This is the recording made at 6 am on a sunny morning on Thursday. Thanks to the biologist Nikolay Kovylov, we can name the birds singing there: there are jays, throstles, orioles, chaffinches, robins, ring doves, great spotted woodpeckers, great titmouses and probably marsh tits, brown willow warblers and hazel grouses.<\/p>\n

Tchernigovsky forest is one of the two forests adjacent to Sergiyev Posad borders, so that the traffic and railroad noises are imminent \u2014 technically it’s a fault, but from the technical point of view it’s a document. The location coordinates are 56.313274, 38.183196<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The International Dawn Chorus Day is not that popular in Russia yet, but there are enthusiasts and field recordist who join the celebration. One of them is Nikolay Terentiev from Severodvinsk in northern Russia \u2014 hear his recording of a sunset in Arkhangelsk taiga.<\/p>\n

This year’s dawn chorus has been broadcasted again from Ireland \u2014 RT\u00c9 has brough live sounds from microphones located in 12 countries across Europe. <\/p>\n
