What’s this?
Sergiyev Posad sound map depicting the city’s sonic environment. New soundwalks are available each month starting November 2010.

How does it work?
The map consists of 12 city areas assigned with different colouring according to the month of the sound recording. Each area is represented by stereo field recordings featuring a guest related to that particular area. The recording is complemented by the binaural stereo recordings made on the location. Neighbouring areas (or those having similar historical background) are merged.

Sounds
Non-verbal recordings were made largely outdoors on a location. They are binaural stereo which means they sound more realistic when listened through headphones.

Hosts
People of Sergiyev Posad who spent their life (or part of) in the particular area.

The goal
The Sound Map preserves the current sonic environment specific to Sergiyev Posad. Secondly, it unveils the general changes the city went through decades. Finally, it is designed to draw attention to the outlying districts of Sergiyev Posad as an integral part of the city helping to build the community spirit across all its inhabitants.

How to use
Binaural recordings provide life-like stereo, headphones are strongly recommended. Mouse over the desired area on the map to see the area’ title, click to get to the audio/info page. mp3 and wav recordings are available for download and playback (including the mobile gear).
