They say it’s better not to look at the welding arc as it may easily cause eye injury. Ok – let’s have a listen then, it’s perfectly safe. Here are the sounds of the wheelchair ramp being renovated at the Gagarin cultural centre in Sergiyev Posad.

Isn’t it way too familiar? This very carousel that I’ve found at one of the playgrounds in Zvyozdotchka, Sergiyev Posad sounds like a cross between the stone-age dial up modems screaming and a guitar solo played through a mobile phone speakers.

A bit of support for the one of the most neglected areas of this blog, the Machinery pages. Here’s a set of three sounds many of us don’t pay much attention to.

———————————————————————————————————————————————

Let’s start with a disc-shaped bus joint, connecting the two sections of a bus. Its creaky sound reminds of a horse’ neigh. Note the whoosh sounds at the end of the recording made by the portable ticket validators operated by a bus conductor. This recording was made on route 23 somewhere in the field half way between Sergiyev Posad and Peresvyet.

Next, the sound of the stage being dismantled. This wooden platform was used during the Youth Day festival held at the Blinnaya Mountain in Sergiyev Posad this June. When the event is over the screwdrivers come in.

Finally, the mixer. Recorded in central Yaroslavl in 200 km to the North East from Sergiyev Posad, it sounds like a musical instrument.

Know what all those little knobs of the washing machine are really for? Great! Record a full colour wash at 40° and Ward Weis, a sound recordist from Belgium would be delighted. More info at his website (press WASH when there).
