Ostrovok (literally meaning small island) is a deserted part of the town made up of the two old houses, one of which is destroyed. Pictured above is an inhabited one, and nearly all the sounds of this place are connected to its dwellers’ activities in a way. You will hear a pigeon flying up to me and then stepping on the rustling leaves scattered all over the place and a man calling his cat. All these are backed by the air-went hum and distant trains.

There’s a baffling billboard addressed to the drivers passing along the road in Semkhoz area of Sergiyev Posad. The slogan is ‘Do remember – you’re a parent of someone‘. So this is the sound of someone’s primogenitors cars recorded near the board.

Two old ladies chatting on a bench by one of the most widely known block of flats in Sergiyev Posad. Located at 9, Karla Libknehta street it is alternatively dubbed as Pentagon for its c-shaped form with the name deriving from five adjacent blocks of one to three porches each. Pentagon’s inner yard has an unusual acoustics.
